Inaugurated on July 25th at the National Museum Soares dos Reis, in Porto, Metamorfoses da humanidade is an exhibition form the renowned artist, Graça Morais, curated by Jorge da Costa. The exhibition brings together about 80 works done by Graça Morais in 2018, firstly presented at Centro de Arte Contemporânea Graça Morais, in Bragança and later at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Lisbon. Under the symbol of metamorphosis, Graça Morais strongly resumes, in a completely unprecedented series of drawings and paintings on paper, a very particular look on mankind. The images, greatly committed to contemporary society, underscore a very diverse set of faces and figures as intriguing as grotesque as serene as restless, as dense as ethereal, from which the artist fulfils a complex web of emotions and human actions. The focus of this new series is once more on the human figure and its condition. Its protagonists are the victims of this global upheaval, are the thousands of migrants and refugees who left their houses and their countries and walked pushed into an uncertain future, fleeing hunger, poverty, wars, violence and death. .Metamorfoses da Humanidade will feature in National Museum of Soares dos Reis until 29th September.
