Throughout 2020, several exhibitions with unpublished works from Nadir Afonso, book releases, conference cycles and a stamp presentation are some of the initiatives that are part of the artist’s 100th birthday celebrations. Born on December 4th, 1920, in Chaves, he was an architect, a painter and a Portuguese thinker who died on December 11th, 2013. He graduated in architecture, worked with Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer and studied painting in Paris. One celebrations’ actions is an exhibition inaugurated some days ago at the Museum of Contemporary Art Nadir Afonso (MACNA), in Chaves, entitled Nadir, Sujectum, which may be visited until November 29th, 2020, and where 90 works of the artist, of which 34 unpublished, may be appreciated. The exhibition «adopts a path that goes from studies to paintings, through the gouaches, thus showing another vision of the painter, much guided by works of geometric compositions, 'espacillimités' and city painting», said the artist’s widow, Laura Afonso, who’s also the president of the Nadir Afonso Foundation.
