Presenting a series of
works from the Secretary of State for Culture (SEC), stored at the Serralves
Museum of Contemporary Art, the exhibition Body,
Abstraction and Language in Portuguese Art demonstrates the importance that
painting and sculpture had throughout the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, in renewing artistic
languages in Portugal. The chosen works bear witness to the various levels of
dialogue and confluence that Portuguese artists have been able to establish
with each other and with the international context since the post-war period. Álvaro Lapa, Ângelo de
Sousa, António Sena, Eduardo Batarda, Emília Nadal, Fernando Lanhas, José Pedro
Croft, Julião Sarmento, Júlio Pomar, Nikias Skapinakis and Paula Rego are some
of the artists represented. This initiative is part
of a programme of exhibitions of works from the Serralves Collection
specifically selected for exhibition venues with the aim of making the
collection accessible to varied audiences throughout the country. The
exhibition will be displayed at the Forum Arte Braga (contemporary art gallery,
in the Altice Forum Braga) until March 24.
