Portugal will host the European Capital of Culture in 2027, together with a city in Latvia. Braga is one of the candidates and has as its best asset the fact that it is a «unique brand identity», characterized by the nature of various periods of history, by its religious heritage, contrasting with modernism and youth. In addition to Braga, the cities of Leiria, Faro, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Évora, Coimbra, Guarda and Oeiras have already announced the candidacy. Portugal has hosted the European Capital of Culture on three occasions: 1994 (Lisbon), 2001 (Porto) and 2012 (Guimarães).
