Being one of the largest and oldest traditional and religious parties in the county of Guimarães, this city Hall’s tourism department aims to give more visibility to the Great Pilgrimage of São Torcato, disclosing and promoting the event, through its integration in local, regional and national travel agents’ operation programmes. In this context, there will be a public presentation of the Great Pilgrimage of São Torcato 2019 programme, on 17th June at 6:00 pm, in Casa da Memória de Guimarães (Av Conde de Margaride - Guimarães), which will be attended by the Judge of Irmandade de São Torcato (São Torcato’s brotherhood), Paulo Novais, and other members of the Brotherhood, the Director of Casa da Memória de Guimarães, Catherine Parker, the Councillor of tourism, Sofia Ferreira, and the President of the parish of S. Torcato, Alberto Martins. The Great Pilgrimage of São Torcato-whose origin is linked to the repatriation of the body of São Torcato, in 1852, to the sanctuary and with the fact that many priests, when bringing alms to São Torcato, came accompanied by a legion of pilgrims on a pilgrimage to the saint - will take place on 5th, 6th and 7th July.
