On the 15 and 16 November 2018, the cathedral in the historical village
of Idanha-a-Velha was the scene of an unprecedented summit on sustainable
tourism in uncrowded cultural destinations, the International Summit: Cultural Sustainable Destinations without Borders,
undertaken by the Historical Villages of Portugal. The Secretary of State for Tourism
Ana Godinho and the Secretary of State for national matters, João Paulo
Catarino were present, as well as several guest speakers from all over the
world who shared ideas. After the debates, the association for the development
of the Historical Villages of Portugal, which was the promoter of the summit,
together with the Institute for Tourism agreed on a Declaration on Cultural Sustainable Destinations without Borders that
was shared with the Secretary of State for Tourism and the Secretary of State
for national matters, as well as with "Turismo de Portugal” and UNESCO. They
requested this declaration should be allowed to national and international
organizations in order to interact with all the tourism, development and
sustainability related areas.
