The Portuguese Association of Museology (APOM), founded in 1965 and dedicated to museology, assigns every year since 1997, awards to museums, projects, good practices, professionals and several activities in the sector. The Museum of the year Award, which is one of the major distinctions of the Association was awarded a few days ago to Museu da Fundação Bienal de Arte de Cerveira (the Museum of Art Biennial of Cerveira Foundation) in the District of Viana do Castelo. With a total of 27 categories in the contest, APOM distinguishes, among others, the best intervention and restoration, the best catalogue, the best exhibition, patronage and museographic project. The distinction of this year, to the Museum of Biennial Art Foundation of Cerveira is headed to the entity responsible for the organisation and management of the collection of works of art created over the course of the Festival dedicated to contemporary art, taking place for over 40 years, in Vila Nova de Cerveira.
The Romanesque interpretation centre, which opened to the public in September 2018 in the village of Lousada, in the District of Porto, won a special merit in the same category.
