Considered a renovator of Literary Studies in Portugal since the last third of the 20th century and one of today’s most relevant essayists, Carlos Reis, a professor at the University of Coimbra, was awarded the Vergílio Ferreira Award 2020 by the University of Évora (UÉ) a few days ago. The winner was unanimously chosen during a meeting of the award jury, chaired by António Sáez Delgado. Established by UÉ in 1996, to honour the writer who gives it its name, Prémio Literário Vergílio Ferreira (Vergílio Ferreira Literary Prize) is intended to award annually the set of the literary work of a Portuguese-speaking author who’s relevant in the fields of fiction and/or essay. The award ceremony of the distinction is scheduled to be held on March 1st, the annivrsary of vergílio Ferreira's death.
