Traçado Regulador – A singularidade do atelier de João de Sousa Rodolfo

Traçado Regulador – The unique style of João de Sousa Rodolfo’s studio

João de Sousa Rodolfo holds a unique place in the world of contemporary residential architecture in Portugal. Founder and CEO of the Traçado Regulador studio, which he established in 1997, his work is recognised for the quiet elegance with which it incorporates topography, light and everyday life – houses that breathe, fine-tuned to the personality of those who live in them. The Traçado Regulador studio handles each project with a combination of technical discipline and poetic sensibility, advocating architecture as an indispensable asset. Every house is a place and every detail an assertion; in this issue, we turn the spotlight on four unique projects by João Sousa Rodolfo and Traçado Regulador.

Villa VK, Cascais

Stood on a 3,000 sqm plot, with a construction area of 2,000 sqm and panoramic views over the bay of Cascais, this residence designed by Traçado Regulador redefines the concept of luxury. The monumental entrance, with its six-metre door and water features on each side, ushers you into a property that combines grandeur and subtlety. Inside, highlights include the 142 sqm living room, eight bedroom suites – including a 100 sqm master suite – and spaces such as a gym, home cinema, wine cellar, panoramic lift and garage for 15 cars. The 28-metre swimming pool with its glass bottom and the rooftop with jacuzzi underscore the feel-good luxury of the project, designed to allow you to experience the landscape in all its glory.

Villa JF2, Soltroia

Designed by Traçado Regulador, this Soltroia residence stands out for its contemporary architecture and the way it blends into the landscape. With simple volumes, large expanses of glass and a neutral colour palette, the 1406 sqm house presents a harmonious relationship between indoors and outdoors. Organised over three floors, it includes spaces such as a home cinema, gym and sauna. Sustainability is a particular strength, with materials such as treated wood, energy efficiency, and air conditioning and photovoltaic systems. The project reflects a rigorous approach to the psychology of space, creating a functional and contemplative experience.

Oeiras Golf & Residence Buildings

Featuring the designs of architect João de Sousa Rodolfo, Traçado Regulador is developing a series of seven residential buildings in Oeiras Golf & Residence. The project reveals contemporary architecture characterised by simple and elegant lines, where the abundance of internal space and transparency between indoors and out play a key role. Natural light is exploited as a constructive element, enhancing the quality of life in the spaces and emphasising the connection with the surrounding green landscape. This exercise in integration is a testament to the studio’s identity, recognised for creating homes that combine sophistication, functionality and quality design.

Villas in Quinta do Pinhão

Under the direction of architect João de Sousa Rodolfo, Traçado Regulador has created the designs for 18 properties in Quinta do Pinhão, next to Herdade da Aroeira, commissioned by the Alves Ribeiro group. The development stands out for its exceptional environmental quality, in a setting marked by nature and its proximity to the sea. The houses showcase contemporary architecture, with understated and elegant lines, in which the relationship between interior and exterior and the importance of natural light are key. The design prioritises comfort and seamless integration into the landscape, creating homes that interact harmoniously with their surroundings, reaffirming the studio’s identity in exceptional residential projects.
