THE LINCE SANTA CLARA - A journey of history and timeless luxury
Share
A contemporary hotel with a fascinating past. Located in the heart of Vila do Conde, at the intersection of the serene waters of the Ave River and the majesty of the ocean, stands the hotel housed in the historic Monastery of Santa Clara. Its uniqueness lies not only in its remarkable architecture, but also in its ability to combine historical legacy with contemporary comfort and sophistication. This magnificent building, with neoclassical features and exquisite symmetry, bears witness to the passage of time and radiates an imposing presence.
Its origins date back to 1318, the result of a dream of its founders. However, the Monastery as we know it today is the result of several renovations that took place in the 18th century. At The Lince Santa Clara, past and present converge harmoniously, guided by the purpose of shaping unforgettable memories in every corner.
Tranquility is timeless. The hotel offers a total of 87 rooms, including 9 suites, each named after notable figures from the nobility, the convent's past, and Portuguese literature, immersing us in the history associated with the city of Vila do Conde. All rooms face the river, the city, or have sea views, incorporating incredible natural light. Open the window and you're immersed in the river and the city.
“A contemporary hotel with a fascinating past.”
Here, each room is carefully designed and transports guests back to the contemplative and serene times of the former Convent of the Order of the Poor Clares. The bar, for example, is located in the former monks' canteen and serves a daily abbess' tea. The underground space where the nuns dried wheat and corn, which served as a passage to the river, now houses an Interpretation Center, created in partnership with the Vila do Conde City Hall, which tells the story of the Monastery.
But The Lince Santa Clara is also a celebration of the senses, boasting two restaurants, where each meal is a journey of discovery of flavors, aromas, and textures. At Mosteiro Restaurant, chef Julia Oliveira's traditional cuisine is a highlight. Goat and veal are some of the dishes that celebrate the gathering around the table, typical of the north, with a concept of sharing. At Oculto Restaurant, which received a Michelin star just eight months after opening, the focus is fine dining. Due to its proximity to the sea, meat is not on the menu, designed by chef Vítor Matos in partnership with resident chef Hugo Rocha. The promise is that throughout your meal, you'll experience a variety of flavors and experiences.
The grandeur of The Lince Santa Clara contrasts with the inner serenity of a place that once was a haven of prayer, introspection, and wisdom. A secluded retreat, a viewpoint, and exclusivity are the best ways to describe this charming and refined place.
