Villas&Golfe International Cup
«Drenched tournament, blessed tournament». These were some of the words uttered by Paulo Martins, CEO of PM media, in a moment of relaxation, when the rain poured down and forced a halt to the tournament. The day was October 30, and around 60 participants were playing in the legendary Villas&Golfe International Cup, in an exclusive format, at the new Herdade do Pinheirinho course, in Melides.
In truth, a large part of the country was being battered by a strong storm since the day before. But that did not deter the various illustrious figures, well known in the golf, television, business and corporate world, from taking part in the event that has become an indelible mark of memorable moments of sport, sophistication, glamour and lifestyle.
Interestingly, the 200-hectare property owned by VIC Properties, where the magnificent Par 72 golf course, designed by architect Jorge Santana da Silva, is located, seemed to manage to avoid the storm. Until everyone was forced to withdraw that is, without cause for alarm. Not least because the very best was made of the moment: with refreshing drinks, replenishing snacks and the exchange of a few words of conversation.
The enthusiasm of the players confirmed that the course had been the right choice
A little later, the sky began to give in again, and in between a few more showers, very few players gave in. Most were not intimidated in the least and played to the end, taking advantage of the challenging tees, the green landscape and, of course, the longest hole in Portugal. The enthusiasm of the players confirmed that, despite the sun refusing to put his hat on, the course had been the right choice to host the Villas&Golfe International Cup in a year of special significance, it being the 20th anniversary year of Villas&Golfe magazine.
So, when the players finished and handed in their score cards, trolleys and bags were packed away, and clothes and shoes were changed, for it was time to get ready for the V&G 20th Anniversary Commemorative Sunset, at the Beach Club Sublime Comporta, where dinner was served, before the tournament’s awards ceremony which, apart from VIC Properties, was sponsored by HYLINE and SAMSUNG; and also by F. REGO, Aston Martin and Sublime Comporta, among various other partners.
