The most anticipated golf event of the year was back at Mangais Golf Resort on April 27, this time with a special by Banco BIC edition. Angola, the country of a thousand treasures, hosted the Villas&Golfe International Cup for another year running, with the promise of plenty of fun and warm temperatures. The round started at eight o’clock sharp, with the sun rising and the golfers dressed for the occasion: on their heads, a V&G cap, on their chests, a white polo shirt with green detailing and, in their hands, the star of the game: a club.Around the course, partners popped up to help ensure moments of sophistication, starting with the charming display of cars from União Comercial, with Land Rover and Jaguar distracting the players from their game. Eager to recognise familiar faces and discover new talents, V&G wandered attentively around the course, which has characteristics close to those of a championship course. It’s by no means easy to remain unmoved by the exotic nature that surrounds the area. The baobab trees, the chirping of the cicadas, the coconut palms, the alligators camouflaged by the lily pads of the lakes and the cheeky monkeys jumping from tree to tree are all aspects that accompany golfers on their journey around the course and add a unique experience to the moment they take their shot.

Where you can feel the essence of golf
Everyone seemed excited, in the competitive atmosphere of a challenging course. When they started to feel tired, they replenished their batteries at the bars on the course, where Banco BIC’s brand activation took place, as well as chef Helt Araújo’s showcooking and a Chandon sparkling wine tasting. Along the way they passed through the golf clinic, conducted by renowned coach António Sobrinho. With him, you learn the essence of golf from the ground up. It is all about posture, arms and feet. About timing, breathing and silence. ‘Dance with desire,’ António would say to the participants who gathered to test their appetite for the sport. With so much movement, all around, all the time, the hours seemed to fly by.
At the end of the event, everyone made their way to the Mangais paragliding area, where lunch and the prize-giving ceremony were held. Banco BIC also took the opportunity to keep guests entertained with an interactive mini-golf course. Having satiated their appetites, the winner of the Net competition of this year’s edition was announced: Francisco Santos, with 41 points. António Marçal took 2nd place, with 38 points, and António Luife 3rd, also with 38 points. Victory in the Gross event went to the aptly named Victor Marçal with 36 points, while Caleb Mtabvuri came 2nd with 26 points and Jilson Francisco 3rd with 25 points. In the special categories, Julia Watson won the Ladies’ Nearest to The Pin and Jefferi Hill the Men’s Nearest to The Pin. The Ladies’ Longest Drive went to Carla Ribas and the Men’s Longest Drive to Caleb Metabvuri. Naturally, this year V&G organised another charity drive, this time to help the Abadá-Capoeira Projecto 5 R association, a group that revives Angolan roots through capoeira. A total of 1.65 million Kwanzas was raised with the piece Macubal, donated by the artist Etona. As a way of also contributing to the Francisco Faísca association, whose mission is to support education, the arts and sport, the work Asmulheres que trabalham, by Maria Otília Santos, was auctioned off, raising one million Kwanzas.
And thus, another special event took place, in the company of golf and, of course, partners such as Cobermaster, Olhar de Prata, Espiral, Vista Alegre, By-AE and many more. We’ll see you soon, but until then don’t be discouraged, because there’s some great news in store for you.
