In the heart of one of the most visited places in the world stands the Café de l’Homme, the history of which blends with that of the palace housing it. The cityscape is breathtaking, reaching its zenith on the terrace, when the sun’s rays sparkle on the metal structure of the Eiffel Tower, spread out across the Champ de Mars and through the Jardins du Trocadéro and intensify their sheen even further on the rolling surface of the Seine. We are, of course, in Paris, the eternal city of love.
The Palais de Chaillot was built as part of the 1937 World’s Fair in Paris, where the Villa Trocadéro, a Moorish-style palace, once stood. Today the Palais de Chaillot is home to the Musée National de la Marine, the Théâtre National de Chaillot, the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine (which includes several bodies) and the Musée de l’Homme, through which you reach this gastronomic refuge.

Café de l’Homme’s culinary offerings highlight local French products and explore new gastronomic trends from the five continents.

Closed in 2011, the Café de l’Homme reopened in 2015 with a completely redeveloped décor and design, created by architects Gilles & Boissier. The concept was to create an environment that combined contemporary décor with custom-made furniture and with an art deco touch from the 1930s, so characteristic of the Palais de Chaillot. Throughout the restaurant’s 500 sqm and the 300 sqm of its terrace, partners Coco Coupérie-Eiffel (Gustave Eiffel’s great-granddaughter) and Christophe Bonnat wanted to create a contemporary and elegant Parisian brasserie, which entices guests not only with its special atmosphere, but also with its exceptional cuisine and wine list. Original and traditional, Café de l’Homme’s culinary offerings highlight local French products and explore new gastronomic trends from the five continents with passion and creativity. Chef Julien Thibault delves into the wealth of French terroirs, while sincerely and authentically expressing honest flavours and original aromas. Like the setting, he concocts dishes with elegance and delicacy, in a fusion of tradition and innovation. And as France’s culinary heritage also includes vineyards, the Café de l’Homme wine cellar has a selection of over 200 wines from the best wine regions, some of them treasures of great rarity.
On warmer days the Café de l’Homme opens the doors of its wonderful terrace, on which the sun caresses the statue of Hercules taming a buffalo (sculpture by Albert Pommier, 1937). In this elegant and timeless place, which pays tribute to France, your gaze is caught by the culturally magical horizon…
