Anyone walking around the famed Harrods department store will have come across the jewel that has adorned the Knightsbridge borough of London for over a year now. The Prada Caffè, adds yet another gastronomic function to this vast and stunning neo-baroque building, in a clear tribute to Milanese lifestyle. Everyone is invited to enter this vibrantuniverse of details and encouraged to savour a fine Italian wine while watching life go by on the outside.
The impact can be felt from the outside, with the giant pediment and dome ensuring impressive grandeur to this part of the building. From the front, it has a contemporary feel, but once you get to see the inside, the configuration seems to change, thanks to the mastermind behind the project, film director Wes Anderson. The Prada Caffè is home to different eras. The combination of Art Nouveau and Art Deco gives way to an eccentric interior décor, in which the density of detail is truly astounding. A chequered floor extends from the entrance throughout the entire area, paving the way to elegant pale green velvet sofas, while floral bas-reliefs decoratethe walls. Marble is apredominant presence, and the shelves seem to resemble the layout of jewellery and handbags in a typical Prada store.
