Located on a river bank covered in jungle, the COMO Shambhala Estate
transcends everything that might be in our imagination when you think of a
place of nature, health and well-being. Surrounded by the forest, between two
mighty rivers, this resort features unique residences, inspired by nature, that
encourage inner healing, this being Bali after all, the jewel of Indonesia, a
paradise overflowing with smiling faces, unspoilt with its unspoilt rural
landscape and a deep sense of religion.
At the Shambhala you can choose between exclusive accommodation in rooms
or a complete holistic healing package, with specialised support in nutritious
cuisine, diagnostics, Ayurvedic treatments, outdoor activities and much more. Opened
in 2005, the COMO Shambhala Estate was the world’s first full-service
residential health retreat and holiday resort in one, and the first to be
launched by COMO Hotels and Resorts group, an award-winning family-owned hotel
and resort group.
Here, lost withinthe lush green of nature and the unique freshness of
Bali, there is no shortage of yoga mats, on the 9.3-hectare estate located a
20-minute drive from the town of Ubud. This small yet lively town is considered
the cultural centre of the island, and its name comes from «Ubad», which means
«medicine» in Balinese.Perhaps because it is home to unique medicinal plants
that grow in the wild in its dense green forests. To add to this, the property
uses water from a natural spring, revered locally for its healing properties.
COMO Shambhala Estate
In the leafy heart of Bali
Surrounded by the forest, between two mighty rivers, this resort leads the way to inner healing.
The ultimate goal of theCOMO Shambhala is for guests to clear their
minds of everything, prioritising the improvement of physical, mental and
spiritual health, and helping them to find a sense of peace through a process
of continuous learning and rebalancing. The estate offers an Integrated
Wellness Programme, which is tailored to individual needs, ranging from stress
management to rejuvenation, and which provides a holistic experience, thanks to
the help of a highly experienced team, inviting us to make life-long changes,
create new strengths and achieve a greater sense of balance. The programmes
include yoga, Pilates, meditation, walks through the rice fields, massages and
body treatments. To complete the holistic approach, the COMO Shambhala places a
special emphasis on cuisine, encouraging guests to appreciate their food and
maintain a lifelong interest in the benefits of good nutrition. The organic
cuisine uses locally sourced produce delivered from field to table with the
minimum of delay.
In total, there are 13 treatment areas. A retreat usually involves five
hours of daily practice (divided between morning and evening), as well as times
of conversation and discussion that provide greater knowledge about the
specific subject of the retreat. A real therapy.
At the COMO Shambhala, there are five exclusive themed residences, each
with four or five suites, airy living areas and a large swimming pool, designed
by Cheong Yew Kuan, an architect with a remarkable respect for the environment
and local building styles. Each residence is private and there are no two
alike. The Umabona has the grandest accommodation, with views of the
Ubud jungle and an aesthetic inspired by the palaces of the Majapahit empire
and their formal pleasure gardens.
Alternatively, the COMO Shambhala offers villas with private pools, hot
tubs and bedrooms in a mix of a fresh, contemporary style with elements of
traditional Balinese design and unrivalled jungle views.
And for anyone who wants to experience activities outside the hotel, the
COMO Shambhala provides expert guides for mountain biking, hiking and other
activities, inviting you to enjoy the surrounding landscape of mountains,
volcanoes, rivers and valleys. Breathe in, breathe out and let yourself be
swept away.
