The opening ceremony of the 1st Edition of the granite biennial, that will take place between May and September this year, is scheduled for the next 11th may at 4.00 pm, in the town of Mondim de Basto and the entry will be free of charge. The initiative will integrate culture, design and sculpture and intends to involve professionals, students and artists in the creation of new products in the market, the stimulation of the development of new materials in granite, the introduction of design in current products, as well as the technical study of granite. The municipality has established partnerships with the school of Arts and Design of Matosinhos, with the Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo, with the University of Oporto and with the college of music and arts of Porto which, through their degrees and masters in Design, will develop a diverse set of new artwork. Academic projects, through creative and innovative approaches, will be able to count on the support of local businesses throughout the execution of masterpieces, including the final projects, which will be presented over the months, several times, in Mondim de Basto.
