Eight projects by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira are part of the bid for World Heritage: the FAUP building, the Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, the Piscina das Marés swimming baths, the Serralves Museum, the Bairro da Bouça housing complex, the Pavilhão de Portugal, the Santa Maria Church and the Casa Alves Costa. Entitled Ensemble of Álvaro Siza's Architecture Works in Portugal, the application has belonged to Portugal's World Heritage Tentative List since 2016, where there were 18 projects that were eventually reduced to a list of eight. The criteria behind the selection of the works were the typological and/or functional variety of the buildings, and some were already considered of heritage status.
