The house belonged to Carlos Fuzetta, a diplomat, lawyer and philanthropist from Olhão, who died in 1942. It was a remarkable bourgeois building built in the 1930s, north of the Bairro da Barreta neighbourhood, in the Algarve city of Olhão. At the top, the prestigious lawyer commissioned the construction of a Gothic-style tower with stained-glass windows and oculi, a symbol of simplicity and nobility. After his death, however, Casa Fuzetta fell into abandonment and neglect, until, about seven years ago, when it was visited by an English couple, who fell in love with it, primarily for its huge courtyard, for the urban surroundings of the old city centre and for the beautiful gothic tower.
In this Charm Hotel conversion special emphasis has been given to the cellar, combined with the dining room dedicated to events.
They purchased it. The team at the offices of architect Jaime Coutinho has proved tireless and what seemed impossible – to return the building to its former glory – is exactly what happened. The renovation work involved all available areas, including the roofs, throughout the four existing floors, fully respecting the original architectural heritage, while adding contemporary design and comfort. On the main roof terrace, with breathtaking views of the urban skyline and with the sea and Ria Formosa wetlands as a backdrop, a swimming pool has been added, thus enriching the leisure areas. In this Charm Hotel conversion special emphasis has been given to the cellar, combined with the dining room dedicated to events, taking advantage of an area on the ground floor in which the walls and ceilings are entirely made of exposed stone masonry and clay bricks, providing a somewhat cosy setting, ideal for dining. Casa Fuzetta has regained its former splendour, and taken it even further. Proof of this can be found in the reviews and top scores that guests keep on giving it, which places this Charm Hotel right among the top exclusive retreats in Europe.
