Luis Carvalho’s F/W19 collection, named Surface has, as its main reference, some of the work done by the digital artist and Collage. Matthieu Bourel combines traditional paper cutting and pasting with digital editing, digital animation and sound design. These artist references, which include illustration, graphic design and art installations, result in pieces that are worked with frills and different sets of overlapping forms with more organic lines. Thus, oversize silhouettes are created with straighter lines, in contrast with organic forms details. The mixture of colours and different images of Matthieu Bourel’s work, has also inspired the choice of raw materials, where chess and pied-de-poule patterns in various shades and materials such as wool, cotton, silk and cupro are an evidence. Orange, beige, night blue, purple and strong pink are the predominant colours of Luis Carvalho’s collection for the colder seasons: Surface.
