Linked to the fishing tradition of Póvoa de Varzim, an icon of the region, seagoers and its ethnographic history, the Camisola Poveira caused a stir after an American designer appropriated the design for her own creations. Revived by the controversy, the traditional garment is now the focus of attention for a process of preservation of what is an ancestral knitting technique. In this sense, the Modatex training centre, in Oporto, will have, starting from September, a course to teach how to knit the Poveira jumper according to traditional techniques.
