In terms of visuals, this hybrid from the German manufacturer proves to be futuristic in every detail. Modern lines give it a dynamic appearance, present, for example, in the impressive easy-to-open, upward-opening, low-weight carbon-fibre gull wing doors, or in the BMW double kidney, flanked by fully LED headlights and by the redesigned air curtains. The interior of the BMW i8 Coupé also underscores its futuristic character, noticeable in the exclusive interior design in Accaro Amido/E-Copper, or in the details of the driver’s space, in terms of the console, in the electrically adjustable sports seats, in the LED lighting, etc., ensuring maximum driver orientation and intuitive driving.

Its sporty image, the
aerodynamic bodywork, the extreme lightweight construction and the layered
design of the LED rear lights, made as air channels through which the wind flows,
are joined by new engine power. Compared to the original model, launched in
2014, the new BMW i8, both the
Roadster and Coupé versions, has received an increase in the capacity of their
lithium-ion batteries, rising from the previous 20 Ah (7.1 kWh) to 34 Ah (11.6
kWh), which enables the range in totally electric mode to go from 37 km to 55
km, or 53 km to the Roadster version. The new BMW i8 are equipped with a charging cable able to withstand greater
voltage and now, in a standard domestic socket, charging time takes only four
and a half hours. With the BMW i Wallbox,
this time can be reduced to three hours. As for the combustion engine, the
1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine keeps the same power and torque
values – about 231 hp and 320 Nm - but gains a particulate filter, so that
the power increase comes exclusively from the electric component. When
combined, the thermal and electric are able to provide about 374 hp - 12 hp more
than the previous one.
