Introducing the latest Ferrari 296 GTB, a
furiously complex model. If you’re itching to hear the growl of the Italian
brand’s new model, take a look at its features first, as this may be a
challenging thoroughbred to master.
Ferrari 296 GTB
Fast and furious
With the Gran Turismo Berlinetta format,
Ferrari’s new hybrid incorporates a 663-hp combustion engine and a 167-hp
electric motor. This fusion results in a power output of 830 hp, accelerating
to 100 km/h in less than three seconds and 200 km/h in less than eight. At 4.56
metres long, the plug-in hybrid can be driven using electric only, in which
mode it can achieve a maximum speed of 135 km/h and a range of 25 kilometres. Inside
lies a V6 twin turbo engine, while outside it reveals shapes that highlight the
muscularity of the rear haunches, as well as the positioning of the driver’s
compartment. It has, in Ferrari’s history to this day, the shortest distance
between axles, enabling greater speed when entering curves.
A furiously complex model
A furiously complex model
It is a model with a futuristic streak, although it is
not the first plug-in hybrid in the collection, as that title goes to the SF90
Stradale model. Still, it is a first for the brand, if you count the
electric component. The traditional side of Ferrari will always strive towards internal
combustion, but evolution imposes itself along the way, which forces it to
change its ways in the construction of new models. And indeed, the 296 GTB
is a vehicle made almost from scratch. The angle between the cylinder banks,
120 degrees, is more open, almost flat. The turbochargers are beefed up so that
the rotor spins up to 180,000 revolutions per minute, making it 24% more
efficient. And for an intense experience, the car also has the four driving
modes - eDrive, Hybrid, Qualify and Performance.
It is the elegant, minimalist features that make the Ferrari
296 GTB the standout vehicle of the moment. Noisy elements, creases and
folds have been left out, focusing on low fronts, diamond shaped headlights,
widened rear bumpers and the essential identifying element: the elegant
silhouette common to the whole Italian family.
On fire, the new model is out there, looking for someone who dares to tame it.
