The tenth anniversary edition of the Jaguar Simola Hillclimb was a
success for the Jaguar Team, with a total of eight podiums to be displayed in
all eight entries in several categories. All eyes were turned to Mark and Gavin
Cronje, who played an epic battle between brothers. The two world champions
made the fastest laps during the qualifying practice sessions over the weekend,
in the run-up to the grand finale of King of the Hill. Yet, this wasn’t the
time to answer the big question about which brother is the best pilot. Mark
managed to make the fastest lap of the weekend, but, in the end, Gavin Cronje
won the best places in A7 class with the best time – just three tenths ahead
his older brother Mark. Juan van Rensburg, in third, secured a clean podium for
Jaguar.
But it wasn't just the F-TYPE that raised the flag Jag in the Top 10.
The journalists Ashley Oldfield, of Cars.com, (which had already achieved a
victory in A9 class) and Marius Roberts, from Ignition TV, with the machines
F-PACEs of 405kW, came in fifth and sixth places. Also, the legends of South
African race Deon Joubert, Shaun Watson-Smith and Mike Briggs made a thrilling
spectacle in EV and Hybrid category with a trio of Jaguar I-PACEs all-electric.
