Alison Buechner was born in Germany, a true citizen of the world, and fluent in several languages. She has added to her studies with each country she has lived in. She came to the Algarve in 1997, joining the team of Quinta Properties in 1999 and taking over the company two years later. In 2005, Kerstin Buechner, Alison’s sister, born in Switzerland and educated in several European countries, joined her. The vast knowhow of both of them of all matters real estate, among other skills, has led the company to the point where they confess that there is currently no challenge left to overcome.
What was your goal when entered the real estate sector in the Algarve and what assessment would you make now of your time working in this field?
Our goal was to be the leading property agent in this most beautiful and luxurious part of the Algarve and to acquire a portfolio of top luxury properties. Over the past 20 years we have seen a steady rise in property prices and have watched this area continue to evolve into what is today one of the leading developments in Europe. Many of our clients have made exceptionally lucrative investments and we are incredibly happy to see so many of them choosing to use our services exclusively for their ongoing property matters. It is and has been a true privilege to be part of this process.
Quinta Properties Savills operates in the luxury real estate sector. What kind of properties do you have on your books and who is your target customer?
We deal with some of the most exclusive properties in the Algarve, mainly in the Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo areas. We also accept listings to our portfolio for very exceptional properties outside of this area. Our buyers are mainly HNWIs from all over the world, with the majority coming from the UK. Not only are they searching for the very best that the Algarve has to offer, but they also have the highest of expectations.
What major challenge are you facing at the moment?
None. The market is going from good to better and it seems the Algarve is on the radar for the most discerning of buyers.

Have you felt any impact of Brexit on the real estate market in the Algarve?
No. Initially we feared that Brexit would have a negative impact on our market, but actually the opposite has been true. It seems that many Brits feel comfortable investing here in Euros, and our British vendors tend to reinvest here rather than bringing their funds back into the UK.
What growth plans does Quinta Properties have for the coming years?
We are a boutique agency specialising in a very concentrated area selling some of the best properties available in the Algarve. We plan to develop this even further and continue to strive to offer both our vendors and buyers the best service and advice possible.
