There are no beaches like those in Gaia

Summer in Vila
Nova de Gaia is always keenly awaited by the locals and all those who visit our
municipality at this time of year, eager to enjoy our beaches, food, culture
and the countless activities that make our region unique.
Vila Nova de
Gaia is proud to have 19 Blue Flag beaches and to be the municipality in the
country most awarded the distinction of Gold Quality Beach by Quercus,
the organisation that annually assesses the bathing water quality of Portugal’s
beaches. But it’s not just because of the exceptional quality of the water that
our beaches have become a national and international benchmark. The
implementation of accessibility and inclusion conditions to support people when
they go bathing, in rest areas or through the adoption of the ColorADD system
and Braille, among others, has contributed greatly to this. These tangible
actions have earned us national recognition, with Salgueiros beach being
awarded the status of the country’s «Most Accessible Beach» in 2022. These accolades and awards are a reflection
of the continuous and committed work of a vast Águas de Gaia team, which,
throughout the year, dedicates itself to preserving and improving our
coastline.
Gaia’s beaches
are truly places for people to meet, relax and socialise. Treasures that we
preserve at the service of our community, without ever neglecting innovation,
as was the case with the creation, in Canide Norte, of the country’s first
heated swimming pool integrated into a beach. An initiative fuelled by the use
of solar panels that guarantees a water temperature of between 28 and 29
degrees, providing extraordinary moments for young and old alike. This
initiative, which we started in 2022, will return this year, as will the
traditional «O Mar dá-tePalco», which brings
cultural, musical, sporting and leisure activities to our beaches, providing an
additional attraction.
As you can see,
there are many possibilities in Gaia to suit all tastes. From the smallest
beaches to the largest, from the quietest to the liveliest, from the historic
to the modern. They all go to show that there really are no beaches like those
in Gaia!
