The countdown has begun. After Matilda Castren gave Europe the deciding point it needed to win the Solheim Cup 2021, played at Inverness Golf Club, in Toledo, Ohio, all eyes turned to Spain. Specifically, to Finca Cortesin, the spectacular Malaga golf club that will host the next edition of the biennial event, from the 18th to 24th of September, 2023.
This is the largest team competition in women’s golf. «We are very proud to have been chosen to host the Solheim Cup 2023 and can’t wait to welcome everyone to the Costa del Sol in two years’ time. With the layout designed by Cabell Robinson, the course suits the game’s format perfectly and I am sure we are ready for another three days of great expectation amidst the picture-postcard scenery of the hills of Andalusia», says Vicente Rubio, president and managing director of Finca Cortesin Golf Club.
It is a member of the exclusive European Tour Properties network and its facilities include a 67-suite hotel
Considered one of the best courses in Spain and one of the best resorts in Europe, Finca Cortesín is located on a vast property in the hills of southern Spain, between Marbella and Sotogrande. Opened in March 2006, it is a member of the exclusive European Tour Properties network and its facilities include a 67-suite hotel, Hotel Cortesin, a professional golf course with state-of-the-art Jack Nicklaus academy, a 6,000-sqm Beach Club and the award-winning spa, Spain’s only spa to boast a ‘snow cave’, with treatments from French brand Biologique Recherche.
Hotel Cortesin offers four restaurants, including El Jardin de Lutz, which serves authentic Spanish cuisine, and the Japanese restaurant Kabuki Raw.
Surrounding the hotel is the resort’s acclaimed 18-hole professional golf course, which was designed by architect Cabell Robinson. The par 72 course – one of the longest in Europe and measuring almost 7,500 yards in length – gained global recognition when it received the Volvo World Match Play Championship in 2009, 2011 and 2012, with the course packed with a star line-up including Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald.
